On October 22nd, President Kennedy addressed the country about the situation in Cuba. His tone is serious, as he informs the public of the placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba, which the President calls "offensive" as opposed to a defensive installation. Kennedy is clear in his statement, "The purpose of these bases can be none other than to provide a nuclear strike capability against the Western Hemisphere".
