The White House Briefing on the Cuban Missile Crisis, October 16th, 1962
On October 16th, 1962 at the White House, President Kennedy was briefed on the missile sites by his advisers. Among those present were:

Gen. Maxwell Taylor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Robert McNamara, Secretary of Defense
McGeorge Bundy, National Security Adviser
Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury
Lyndon B. Johnson, Vice-President
Robert Kennedy, Attorney General
Below are excerpts from the conversation. The meeting is begun by the President being shown blown up images of the MRBM site. The intelligence advisers brief the President on the types of missiles, and their range. The President is concerned with getting to know exactly how close the missiles are to being ready. As the advisers discuss the issues to best inform the President of the situation, think about what each man is advising the President to do. Do they want peace, an attack, diplomacy? What do they fear?
